Top 5 Things You Might Want To Keep In Check Before Planning Your First Ever Train Journey!

We all love to take a break from the monotonous life every once in a while and take a nice vacation with our loved ones or family or friends. But most of the time our pockets do not allow that. But thanks to the Indian railways, that make travelling so much comfortable and affordable at the same time.

The railways has been able to accommodate all the sections of the society and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that today most of the population has been on the rails at least one. But if you are one of the rare populations then you have to take a trip on the train soon. And these are the following things that you must keep in mind while planning a trip by the railways:

  1. Ticket reservation– lakhs of people commute via the Indian railways on a daily basis. So in case you have a well planned trip, then you have to reserve your train tickets well in advance. Because the more you delay, the higher gets the waiting list and the more you lose your chance of getting a seat. Ideally you should book your tickets at least 1 and half months before.
  2. Carrying your ticket– earlier people had to go to the railway station to book their tickets. But these days everything can be done online. Now in case you too have booked your tickets online, then make sure you get a printout of your e-ticket and also carry an identification card. And don’t make the mistake of carrying a duplicate. Make no mistake, always carry an original.
  3. Food and water– these are the most basic necessities. Now if your train journey is only for a few hours then you could carry homemade food for yourself. But if your journey is for more than a day then doesn’t worry you won’t starve to death. The Indian railways have this covered for you. To make sure you get hot meals, the trains have a pantry car that offers you food in train at a decent rate. Also, one has the benefit of packaged mineral water sold by the vendors.
  4. Make sure to check the station schedule– you must go though the schedule of the train stops. One can easily find them from the online websites. This gives you an idea about the halts at each station and also about the route of the train. And the most important, keep a track of your own destination and the time of arrival.
  5. Toiletries – if you are travelling for the first time you are definitely going to be very particular about every tiny detail. So you might want to keep your sanitation in check. Although the trains offer soaps, hand washes and towels; but you could carry your own sanitizer and hand wash just to be on a safe side. Also, if your trip is an overnight journey then you would need things like tooth paste, brush etc to clean up the following morning.

South Gran Canaria

Coast and Interior, identical in beauty and beautiful places

It’s incredible the large number of magical places that come together in a place as small as the South of Gran Canaria. It’s a small area regarding the extension, but immense regarding possibilities of leisure, nature and fun. The best way to explore the South of Gran Canaria is to rent a car and get to know the different towns, tourist attractions and natural surroundings in a leisurely and relaxed pace, in keeping with the calm nature of the island.

South Gran Canaria - Maspalomas

In general, what attracts the attention of the southern part of Gran Canaria are its beaches, located in a little wilderness coast, of extensive sandstones of fine white sand. This coastline extends along the highway, which takes the traveller from the capital Las Palmas to Puerto Rico, the tourist resort located in Mogán. As we go along the route, we hit first with Vargas beach and Cabrón beach. Both are close to the towns of Ingenio and Argüimes, and it’s a famous spot for water sports specially windsurf and diving.

Pozo Izquierdo is the mecca of Windsurfing as well as being one of the venues of the World Windsurf Championship, which during the month of July welcomes experts and fans of the sport of waves and the wind from all over the world. On this area, you will find a large array of Beachfront Accommodation, perfect for your next holidays in Gran Canaria.

But the most touristy and popular area of southern Gran Canaria (and we can almost say that of the whole island in general) is the one that appears below. The beach of Tarajillo is its starting point, followed by Aguila, San Agustín, Las Burras, English, Maspalomas and Meloneras Beach. All these “Arenales” are part of the region called Maspalomas Costa Canaria, belonging to San Bartolomé de Tirajana and that counts in its possession with no less than 17 kilometres of beaches.

The natural environments related to these are truly spectacular, from the beautiful salt water lagoon known as La Charca, which is the centre of the Oasis of Maspalomas. This enclave is a zone of dunes, populated by palm trees as if an oasis in the middle of the desert was; In fact, the “Dunes of Maspalomas” is a protected area due to the ecosystem of fauna and flora that houses.

Once inland, the ravines and cauldrons leave to meet the visitor to astonish him with his majesty. The Barranco de Guayadeque, located between Agüimes and Ingenio, has its highest part at 1,500 meters above sea level and descends gently to die in the sea, to the East of Gran Canaria.

The church excavated in Guayadeque rock and the many hospitality establishments that have ingeniously adapted to the sheer ruggedness of the region. The Caldera de Tirajana, between Saint Lucia and San Bartolomé, shows itself abruptly in the landscape, offering the possibility of visiting the surroundings to contemplate the great variety of its native flora, and the beautiful Risco Blanco, which rises majestically with its 400 m of height.

The towns of the south of Gran Canaria, as we have said, deserve a particular route at a relaxed pace, so that they can enjoy their heritage and its people. On the coast, we find places as beautiful and exciting as Agüimes, whose historical centre deserves a visit already, as well as its Episcopal Palace and the church. Santa Lucia is another nearby town, whose historic centre is also a redoubt of timeless beauty. And in Maspalomas, we cannot miss the lighthouse that has the same name, and that rises to 65 meters above the beautiful Oasis. A place as special as unique in the world, where to perceive the known limit of the Earth…

Once inside, more beautiful and picturesque villages await the visit of lovers of beauty and tradition. The city of Telde, home to one of the Aboriginal kingdoms of Gran Canaria, boasts treasures such as the San Francisco Quarter, with its old mansions and stone and wood buildings, and San Juan, with its leisure and Fun Park.

The church of San Juan and its remarkable altarpiece of flamenco style stand out in this enclave. The archaeological sites of this area are also of great interest. Continuing with the route, we arrived at Valsequillo and The Church of San Miguel; the beauty of this place lies in its surroundings, plagued by ravines cut to peak and the profusion of flowers and crops, which is possible to admire as far as the view from the Mirador del Helechal. Another picturesque and exciting town is Ingenio (whose unique name is due to that it was formerly the location of a sugar mill), which has a famous Stone Museum.

And already in the zone of Puerto Rico and Maspalomas, we arrive at the end of the route by the south region of Gran Canaria. This area is eminently touristy, with a large number of restaurants and local as well as high-end hotel facilities. It is worth mentioning the theme parks and nature that will delight children and adults, such as the West Village, Pamitos Park or the Aboriginal World.

The trend of overseas travel has increased more than ever and so as the number of passport circulation. In 2010, more than one million passports were issued which is reason enough to define the scope of travel and must-have documents. Passports fall into four categories namely; regular, official, diplomatic and passport cards. The term “P-Type” isn’t a specific type but rather a document with letter “P” denoting “passport”.

Let’s have a look at different passports and required paperwork.

1. Regular

Regular passport is issued to the natives who at the time of application must present a certified copy of birth certificates bearing registrar’s seal of office and initials. Non-native candidates who are indeed citizens should cater naturalisation and citizenship certificates; a consular report of birth in a foreign land can be provided as well.

2. Official

This type of passport is best defined through the statement put forward by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security which is;

“Official passport is dispensed to a government employee or official, travelling offshore for business purpose”

Family members of the government personnel can also qualify for this P-type however they also need abiding to the detailed paperwork.

3. Diplomatic

Officers of the Foreign Service or other individuals travelling abroad to execute diplomatic duties for government are given these passports. Like “official”, diplomatic family members are also eligible following the common procedure.

4. Passport cards

Passport card isn’t a complete traveller’sdocument and bearerisn’t allowed moving internationally to most countries. If you’re a resident of the U.S. it’s only valid for domestic commuting and between Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Finding the “P-Type

All of the above documents contain a specific data page that asks for a photograph, name, nationality, passport number, gender, birth place (city), endorsements, issuance and expiry dates. The page also highlights code and type which would define the “P”. You can easily spot it right under the country heading on the left side, next to the photograph.

 Essential Documents

Obtaining a passport is a gateway to a world of travel privileges. The process can be long and tiring as you need to understand about the required documents and how they can save a lot of time. Here’s a comprehensive checklist of required paperwork!

1. Passport Application Form

The first and foremost step is to fill out the application form. If applicant is above 16 years, he’s eligible to fill it up individually or else parents/legal guardians must do the honor. With internet, it can now be filled online and hardly takes 30 minutes.

2. Citizenship Document

Applicant must also conjure citizenship documentation in the country where they’ve plans to move. Form of a previously issued and unspoiled passport, birth and naturalisation certificates would also suffice.

3. Government ID & Photographs

Many applicants go for a driver’s license or previously issued passports to save time, cost and effort. Military identification and naturalisation certificates are also acceptable. Make sure you’ve attached a fresh photograph with plain blue background and a clearly visible face.

Conclusion

In order to qualify for the U.K. residency or for any place else, the first step is obtaining a passport so you better understand the details as given.
